General Finishes -- Enduro Varnish

Post by ken cierp » Tue Feb 23, 2016 2:24 pm

Well having given up on water borne finishes several times already, here I go once again -- I have done some tests with this product and its a joy to work using good quality foam brushes -- I have foam rollers too. The product is odd in that its pink! But ends up a nice amber color on Sitka spruce. Its self sealing (note per General -- shellac is to be avoided) so that step is eliminated. When I contacted General Finishes I was told its compatible with Zpoxy so that is what I'll be using for pore filler. Dust resistant is a few minutes, re-coat 2-4 hours. I am going to set-up a little heated drying booth to further speed things up. I have three projects lined up for finishing -- this is the stuff I'll be using -- I have high hopes!

Hey Ken, thanks for the post on Enduro Varnish. I have used it on several woodworking projects and I find it to be an excellent material. You can buff it out to a deep shine and its a very "forgiving" finish. I used foam brushes, worked slowly and it flattens out nicely. Post a picture or two once you get to that stage!

Can it be wiped on (coffee filters?) rather than brushed or sprayed?

Its a spray on finish ----- I did a brush on sample, not good, way too much work. If you want to pad use Tru-Oil

Thanks, Ken. I live in California, so Tru-Oil isn't available as a local purchase. I'm trying to coax some out-of-state friends to send some. Otherwise, it'll be Minwax Wipe-On Poly (satin) -- unless you (or someone) suggests an alternative. (As an aside, I'm building your 000 Success Kit - slowly - and it's a well-designed set of quality parts. Thanks for that as well.)
