A question for Kevin in California

Post by Dave Bagwill » Tue Apr 20, 2021 12:16 am

Or,, whoever knows the answer, but Kevin once mentioned that he used stabilized redwood burl for knife scales.

I've got some redwood burl to use again as headplate, and wondering how to stabilize it?

Thanks.

I agree CA glue. Also there are some epoxies in the marine world designed just for this purpose. Although I do not remember the products.

Thanks fellers.
I'm concerned that the CA will really darken the burl too much, but I'll do a test piece to determine that.

With CA you can seal it with shellac first so that any end grain is sealed. CA still will bound,
